Lance Mitchell, 65, of Nevis, MN, sadly left us on Friday, March 3, 2023. He was born on June 12, 1957, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Connie (Werner) and Richard Mitchell.

He grew up in St. Louis Park where he played hockey for many years. He then proudly served our country with the United States Navy for 6 years as a Gunners Mate 3rd class Petty Officer. After his military years, he owned and operated a hydraulic business.
In 2001, Lance met the love of his life, Beverly. They began visiting the Akeley area every weekend and fell in love with the area and community. In 2005, they married and moved to their “little house in the woods” and have been a part of the Akeley community ever since.
Lance loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and enjoyed ice fishing. He took great pleasure in introducing and sharing this love for the outdoors with others. His affectionate nickname was “DNR Lance” because of his love for the woods and his hope that future generations would enjoy nature as much he did.
Lance developed close relationships with everyone in town and was loved by all. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather (papa), and a great friend. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his smile.
A celebration of Lance’s life will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Akeley Municipal Liquor Store “The Muni”, 2 Broadway St. W. Akeley, MN, 56433.
